TSMC to launch 2nm chip production in 2025 – Wylsacom

TSMC has officially unveiled its N2 (2nm) process technology, which will use GAAFET gate transistors. The production of chips on a 2-nm process technology will be launched in late 2025 – early 2026.

Also in 2nm chips, the power line will be moved to the reverse side of the semiconductor chip. This will allow you to organize the power supply more efficiently – with a shorter length. Gate transistors reduce leakage and add flexibility by changing the channel size.

Switching to a 2nm process will increase transistor performance by 10-15% at the same power consumption as 3nm. Or power consumption can be reduced by 25% to 30% at the same semiconductor device frequency.

Industrial production of new chips will begin in the second half of 2025, that is, the first devices with new chips will appear no earlier than the end of 2025 – the beginning of 2026. Intel promises to introduce a 2nm process technology as early as 2024.
