Total War: ROME REMASTERED has just been released and the modding community has already started to show its magic. Highly skilled modders associated with the Total War series have presented several really good mods for Total War: ROME REMASTERED. So far, there are very few mods in general but they are good. So good they are worth trying out right now.
Best Total War: ROME REMASTERED Mods
- Barbarian Invasion: Naval Battles
- Total Conquest
- RTR: Imperium Surrectum
- All Alexander Factions Unlocked
- Original Wonder Videos
Barbarian Invasion: Naval Battles
The next mod is actually a Naval Battle mod. So it is a mod that brings naval battles into Total War Rome Remastered. This mod is made by Sirrianus Dagovax – the modder behind the naval battle mod for the original Rome Total War. Thanks to his experience he was quickly able to get this ported or re-done for the remaster. This mod uses the Barbarian Invasion swimming mechanic in order to add naval battles into the game. So currently it’s only available for a Barbarian Invasion.
An important thing to note is that it only unlocks naval battles for custom battles. It does not work for a campaign and there’s no way to get this to work in the campaign. I think Feral Interactive would have to do some work in order to get this into the main campaign. Initially, lots of players had difficulty launching this mod. The game used to crash with this mod. I would recommend backing up your files before installing this mod.
This is a mod called Total Conquest and one thing it does very nicely is that it adds new provinces and I mean it’s the only thing it does. Total Conquest adds about 35 new regions and settlements and you know this is one of the areas where modding Total War Rome Remastered is going to be better than the original because the cap on the regions and settlements has been increased.
This is the first mod that adds new settlements to the game. Feral Interactive has stated that they will be lifting the Faction limit from 21 to 31. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like that the limit has been raised yet. They might also increase that further than 31. We will have to stay tuned for that.
Areas like Gaul, Britainnia, Illyria, Iberia, Africa, Asia Minor, Dacia, Parthia, Macedonia, Italy have been expanded. Asia Minor has a new settlement called Salukia in Kilicia. Trapezes, Pessimist, C-day have also been added. The modders of this mod have stated that they will continue to develop this mod as the cap is increased. So we will get to see more settlements, factions in near future.
RTR: Imperium Surrectum
The last and probably the biggest mod is RTR: Imperium Surrectum. The mod is being made by the combination of the teams from Rome Total Realism and Roma Surrectum mod teams. This mod is going to be the first total overhaul mod that was being planned and in development right now. RTR: Imperium Surrectum is going to be laser-focused on historical accuracy, realism and making the game more historically accurate.
Like me, there are so many people who prefer historically accurate mods like Europa Barbarorum, Roma Surrectum, Rome Total Realism. For this mod in particular, many players will be really excited about and I would suggest keeping an eye on the development process so that you would get new updates on this mod as they appear.
All Alexander Factions Unlocked
The second mod is the All Alexander Factions Unlocked mod. All the factions have now been unlocked. In the remaster the unplayable factions in the Barbarian Invasion, the Emergent factions, as well as all the unplayable factions in the original Rome Total War, have been unlocked for play except the Alexander Factions. So this mod makes every Alexander faction in Total War Roam Remastered playable. There are few issues with this mod. The main problem is that this campaign is designed for Alexander. It is designed to be played only as Macedon.
This mod does not add anything new or change anything. And also the Alexander campaign is the least popular among all other campaigns. It still needs a lot of work and I hope in upcoming months we will get to see mods made for this particular campaign.
This Alexander Campaign all Factions Unlocked mod really makes me think of rise of Persia. It makes me want to see a rise of Persia for the remaster.
Original Wonder Videos
This is not really a huge mod. It is a smaller mod that adds in the original wonder videos from the original Total War: Rome. So a lot of people were upset that in Total War Rome Remastered they don’t have the original wonder videos and so this mod adds them back in. So for those people who want the original wonder videos back, you know what to do.
Europa Barbarorum 3 has not come out yet. So there aren’t total conversion mods available for the game yet. Those are going to take months to develop. But from all of these mods, we can see that the game is moddable. Things like adding provinces, modding the map are all doable. So players should get really excited about the future of this game based on what we are already seeing from the modding community.
