Tencent’s Honor of Kings is reported to have reached over 100 Million DAU which is a world record in the mobile gaming world as of now. To put that number in perspective, it is more than double the population of Canada.
This news was revealed during an online Livestream celebrating the game’s 5th anniversary with its players. In the same Livestream, the plan to expand Honor of Kings world from the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) into two new genres was also disclosed. However, the names of those 2 new games are not yet revealed.
We are going to expand how players can interact with the Honor of Kings world and create a multi-dimensional brand experience that drives engagement both inside the game and outside it. This could include anime, films, music and even live action series.Li Min, game director and general manager of Tencent’s Timi Studios, told Reuters in an interview.
Additionally, as a part of the celebration, TiMi studios also introduced an officially licensed Bruce Lee skin into the game. Also, the tie-up with the British Luxury group Burberry was also announced.
PUBG is no longer Tencent’s most popular game. Definitely not after its Ban in India. The crown had been taken over by Honor of Kings a long time ago. Since its launch in 2015, it has gained momentum to become the most popular game in China and one of the world’s highest grossing games of all time. Honor of Kings is also the premier mobile esports on the planet, with the game’s esports viewed 44 billion times in 2019. Of those, 24 billion were related to official professional esports tournaments, up nearly 41 percent year-over-year.
With close to $240 million in user spending, not including third-party Android stores, Honor of Kings was the top grossing mobile game worldwide for September 2020, according to a report from Sensor Tower. With most of the revenue coming from China and Taiwan, it represented over 87 percent growth from September 2019.
