Sony has recently re-released some of its movies from the Sony’s 4K Movie Essentials series in Blu-Ray UHD format with the PlayStation 5 logo clearly visible on the cover.
The first films in this new series will be the Spider-Man Collection, a box set available from November 19 that includes Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man Far From Home and Spider-Man A New Universe, later other films will be added including The Fifth Element, Baby Driver The Genius of Escape and Spider-Man A New Universe in a single version.
With this move, Sony wants to push the upcoming PlayStation 5 as not only a gaming console but also as a Blu-Ray player. Hence the idea of updating the covers of a series of Sony Pictures films by highlighting the next-gen console logo and launching the PS5 4K brand, Movie Essentials.
The complete list of re-branded movies include:
- The Fifth Element
- Baby Driver
- Spider-Man: Far from Home
- Into the Spider-verse
- Bad Boys for Life
- The Genius of Escape
- Pineapple Express
- Zombieland: Double Tap
- Resident Evil Collection
It is not clear at the moment if all these re-editions will be available worldwide or not, at the moment the launch seems to be confirmed only in Canada, North America and the United Kingdom. What do you think of this choice? Sony is right to push PS5 as an ideal multimedia system for playing Blu-Ray movies or not? The word is up to you.
