LineageOS 19 brings Android 12 to several older smartphones

LineageOS custom firmware developers adapted its updated version for several models of Xiaomi and Sony smartphones. LineageOS 19 is based on Android 12.

Last month LineageOS 19 was adapted for OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, Poco X3 Pro and Xiaomi Mi A1. Now it can be installed on Sony Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ3, Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 10 Lite 5G.

In addition, the Moto Z Play and Moto Z2 Play smartphones received an update to LineageOS 18.1 based on Android 11. Previously, LineageOS 14.1 (on Android 7.1) and LineageOS 15.1 (on Android 8.1) firmware were available to them, respectively.

To install LineageOS, it is required that the bootloader is unlocked on the smartphone and custom recovery (TWRP) is installed. You need to copy the file with the firmware to the smartphone’s memory, go into the recovery, perform a data reset and start flashing. Keep in mind that LineageOS does not come preinstalled with Google apps and services. They can be installed separately – in the same way through the recovery.

For experienced people, this will not cause any difficulties, and if you have not done flashing before, then you should not take risks, otherwise you risk damaging your smartphone, and you will have to give it to specialists for restoration. LineageOS is considered one of the most stable and advanced custom ROMs, and the new version of Android is able to “revive” an old smartphone, adding features that it didn’t have before.
