With FaceTime you can call up to 32 participants in a group. The larger the group, the more confusing it can become. That’s why Apple added the grid view to FaceTime in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15. Instead of individual tiles and windows, they all sit neatly side by side in a clearer view. In this tip, we’ll show you how the grid view works in FaceTime.
Using Grid View in FaceTime
The grid view, also called grid view in FaceTime, ensures that each speaker appears in his own box, which are placed directly below and next to each other. While speaking, the box of the participant who is speaking is outlined in white. This makes it easier to see which of the participants is talking to you.
You can switch between the regular view and the grid view at any time in a FaceTime group call. This only works from four participants. This is how you do it:
- Start a FaceTime call. Have a total of four or more participants (excluding yourself).
- Now tap the screen to display the buttons.
- A button appears at the bottom left to toggle between regular and grid views.
You have now set up the grid view for FaceTime. If you want to go back to the normal view, follow the same steps. On some iPhones, the windows of participants who are not speaking appear blurred.
This feature is different from auto-zooming in FaceTime calls. You can also change that setting and you can read how to do that in our tip.
