CozyLife offers 2 packs for less than $20.

If you’re starting from scratch with HomeKit, it might seem expensive. There are so many devices with different features that you may be confused about which one to buy. However, if you’re new to HomeKit, I have the perfect device to start with: the switched power outlet. I recently tested a new inexpensive HomeKit-compatible wall adapter that costs less than $20 for a two-pack and is the perfect way to get started with HomeKit.

HomeKit Weekly is a series dedicated to smart home accessories, automation tips and tricks, and everything related to the Apple smart home system.

Over the past few years, I have bought and tried almost every HomeKit product on the market. I love finding new products, seeing how they work, and putting them through the testing cycle. So when people ask me how to get started with HomeKit, I always suggest a switchable outlet adapter. It can turn any lamp or other non-smart appliance into a HomeKit compatible one with minimal installation or knowledge.

For the switchable plug adapter, all you have to do is plug it in, scan the QR code in the Home app, and you’ve turned your plug into a smart plug. From there, you can plug in a coffee maker, a lamp, or anything else in your home that you want to put in HomeKit.

CozyLife 2 Pack HomeKit

When I was looking for new HomeKit products to review recently, I came across the CozyLife HomeKit Outlet Adapter and I was immediately drawn to the price. It cost less than $20 and includes two outlets. For those just getting started with HomeKit, this might be my recommendation for an inexpensive start. If you pair this with a HomePod mini or Apple TV acting as a home hub, you’ll have basic setup and fast performance.

The unboxing showed me just how small the adapter really is, but its shape can be a little disappointing. This is a circular setup, so it rises above/below the other outlet. If you haven’t tried using both CozyLife dual socket adapters, you should be fine. This would be easy with a normal two-prong plug above or below it.

Setup was as easy as any other HomeKit product you’ll use. The QR code is on the box and is printed on the right side of the adapter. All you have to do is plug it in, scan the code and it’s ready to go. Overall, it performs just like a product from more established manufacturers at a higher price point. One of the benefits of HomeKit that I preach is that once a product is on board, it doesn’t matter who made it.

What can I do with the HomeKit socket adapter?

As I said at the beginning, the HomeKit Network Adapter is one of my favorite ways to connect people to HomeKit. There is a minimal installation and countless use cases. Once you’ve set up both products with multiple lamps, you’ll want to get into building HomeKit automation.

In the Home app, tap the + sign and find Add Automation. Click Time of Day. In this example, we want the light to appear at sunset, so select that. Once this is completed, the rosette will appear every day at sunset. If you want the lamps to turn off at a certain time, you can create another automation, select a specific time and turn off the sockets.

CozyLife HomeKit sockets are pretty basic products, but that’s not a bad thing. They work well, are low cost, and you can get a pack of two for less than $20. So it’s hard to pass it up if you need a great place to start with HomeKit or want to add a few extra HomeKit socket adapters.
