With “Call of Duty Vanguard” the series returns to its roots.
A new year, a new “Call of Duty”. Sledgehammer Games is responsible for “Vanguard”, which puts you in the Second World War. It is noticeable that the focus in the upcoming shooter is on the characters. You can expect a kind of origin story in which the beginnings of today’s special forces are told.
Author wants to establish iconic CoD characters
And it seems the characters might return in upcoming games. At this year’s New York Comic Con spoke the author Sam Maggs on the hopes that go beyond this title. She hopes there will be at least two direct sequels to the story. “Call of Duty” tends as a franchise to miss iconic characters, which Maggs apparently wants to change with further “Vanguard” episodes.
“We were wondering how we could create the iconic COD characters because they don’t really exist in Call of Duty yet. When you think of a game like Halo, you think of the Master Chief, but when you think of COD, there really aren’t these great characters, ”she said.
Maggs added, “So we asked ourselves, ‘Who could be our figurehead for COD?’ Because we want to do Vanguard 2 and Vanguard 3, because we have two more stories to tell with these characters. So we hope that if people love them as much as we do, we can keep telling these people’s stories and make them sort of a figurehead for this era of COD. “
Beyond the “Modern Warfare” sub-series, most of the titles in the “Call of Duty” series are independent or loosely related to a recurring character. The “Black Ops” series can be named as an example.
