Call of Duty Modern Warfare II: the DMZ mode would be released in free-to-play in 2023 | Xbox One

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II made a lot of noise at the beginning of June, it is Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone that have taken over in recent days. Last I heard, Infinity Ward was looking for an open-world RPG specialist and we learned that the Modern Warfare II beta could arrive in mid-August. Nevertheless it is the famous mode inspired by Escape From Tarkov, the DMZ mode, which resurfaces today with important information.

The DMZ mode available in a free-to-play formula in 2023?

This is in fact what the last post from insider Ralph Valve posted on Whatifgaming. Also called “Project Nexus”, the Tarkov-inspired DMZ mode would approach an RPG formula and all of Activision’s studios would be working on it. This mode would be much more important than one might think and it would ultimately be a free-to-play project in development for more than 4 years.

Many changes would have been made to it over time and the development has experienced several delays, especially because of Black Ops Cold War. Infinity Ward was able to refocus on its goals by offering an all-new content schedule.

As for the steps to follow regarding the next Call of Duty, players can expect, first of all, the classic release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare II on October 28 with 3 modes (surely campaign, multiplayer and cooperation). Secondly, Warzone 2 would arrive in December 2022.

Finally, the DMZ mode would arrive in the first quarter of 2023 and would have an open world. It would be an extension of the campaign with a story and a narration leaning on certain characters, fronts and quests. This mode would feature both PvP and PvE events. The DMZ would have its own beta and would currently be in pre-alpha.

Ralph Valve reminds us at the end that an official announcement is scheduled for August. We will therefore have to wait for the heart of summer to finally discover what is going on behind this mysterious game mode that is increasingly expected by players.
